I have just returned home from a 21 day overland trip, Cape Town to Victoria Falls with Sunway Safaris. My friend and I had a couple of extra days in Cape Town prior to commencement of the safari, and again at the end, to take in a few extra sights not included in the itinerary. Our guides, Marcus and Fundi took us on an unforgettable adventure from the spectacular scenery of mountains, gorges and rivers to the abundant wildlife.Their insightful knowledge of history, land and animals gave us a better understanding and appreciation of Africa and her people. They were always professional in their approach towards the group and they worked hard to ensure we all were comfortable, well fed, safe and felt included, being differing nationalities we were a diverse group indeed! Travelling overland gave the unique opportunity to be immersed in the sights and culture unique to each country we visited. Often the days started early, and for me, being an early bird I enjoyed the mornings with the magnificent sunrises and the quiet before others were fully present. The roads travelled were a mix of sealed and unsealed, the latter being a little bumpy at times, but all part of the adventure. We learned what an ‘African Massage’ was, but sorry guys it’s still a long way from a Thai massage, now THAT is crippling!🤭 We knew what to expect for each day being given a short briefing the night before however, travelling through the borders, country to country was an experience I won’t forget easily, nothing, not even the briefing can prepare one for that! Thanks to Marcus and Fundi we all managed to enter and exit without too much fuss! Our accomodation overall, was comfortable and the hospitality from staff, for the most part was exemplary. One place however made us (the group) feel very unwelcome, that, together with the strange dome shaped accomodation, around ten steps up to the entry door (no handrail) and immediately as the door was opened, the same amount of steps down (again no handrail) made me question how many people have left the property in an ambulance (or similar) to the local hospital due to injury? (Being in the business of healthcare I notice these things) From beginning to the end I’ve been impressed with the level of organisation, efficiency and attention to detail by Sunway to make this trip memorable, it has exceeded all my expectations. PS: thank you Sunway for the little surprise, given to us one evening by Marcus and Fundi, after the mix up with our pick up point for the added activity. Now back home, I’m thankful for all I’ve encountered and experienced. I have many happy memories which will linger a long time, and if I do feel the memories are fading, I have a million photos to remind me, new friends and a little piece of Africa in my heart. In September 2026 I participated in a walking holiday in South Africa. The journey was very well organized. The accomodations were good and often very special. Dylan and Shumba (guide and driver) were really enthousiatic, friendly, experienced and knowledgeable. They also provided us with delicious lunches and a real African braai. Thanks to them this trip was unforgettable.

Went on the BT14 trip from Johannesburg to Livingston through Botswana. Absolutely incredible trip of a lifetime. Our driver and guide, Mr Ngande, from Maun to Kasane was fantastic and we saw so many animals. The camping was so comfortable and really added to the experience. Cannot recommend this tour enough.

My dream trip to Zimbabwe and eastern South Africa was even more beautiful and impressive than I had expected: the unforgettable encounters with the local people, the conversations with our local guide Alfred around the campfire in the evenings about culture, history, and current events, the intense wildlife observations, the fantastic scenery, etc. Our tour guide Nils, from Germany, organized everything perfectly and took excellent care of the group in every situation. My first time in Africa, and I spent about two out of three weeks with our two guides, Thabani and Ayibongwe. We all wished they could have stayed with us longer, and saying goodbye was difficult. They were incredibly professional yet fun and easygoing people. They had a wealth of knowledge about animals, culture, and villages! We always felt safe and welcome. Their cooking is amazing; I ate better than at home... I would love to come back again.
