Alois Gumpo

Alois GumponewAlois grew up in a small wilderness town in the northern part of Zimbabwe. The town of Kariba, named for the famously huge Lake Kariba is a lively and well known tourist destination. Having been brought up in this town inspired him to be passionate about conservation and the protection of wildlife. As many Zimbabweans do, he longed to be involved in helping visitors to Africa experience the incredible continent that he calls home. He began his career in 2008 as a canoe guide on the mighty Zambezi River, just one of the many highlights of visiting Zimbabwe and Zambia. This mighty river offers many wonderful adventures to be had, not only with the mighty Victoria Falls, but all the way along the Zambezi valley as it flows towards Malawi. Alois is now a professional Sunway field guide and is often to be found travelling around different national parks and cultural social places, sharing his experiences and knowledge of his beautiful Africa. Besides his interest in wildlife he also enjoys socialising with people from different cultures, traditional backgrounds and from every corner of the world. Alois will always ask "What are you waiting for? Come along and join the most awesome journey of your lifetime... a safari in Africa!"

BOTSWANA BTa14"Hi Sunway Safaris! We just returned from a two week tour through Botswana and I just wanted to thank you for the absolutely amazing experience we had! Our guides Moffat and Alois were fantastic and made the whole experience unforgettable, so please thank them from us again. Their cooking was also miles better than any of the restaurants, and they knew answers to pretty much anything we asked them. We will definitely be back on another tour with you soon. Until then, please pass on our sincerest regards to the whole team! " Sandra and Paul, October 2022

ZIMBABWE & BOTSWANA ZBa16: "Finally, it goes without saying, that the two guides who accompanied us- Alois and Kalunga were amazing. They were extremely knowledgeable, very professional and were responsible for making the Safari the success it was.

Kalunga's capable driving on those long stretches of poor road through Zimbabwe and Botswana need special mention and Alois talents as a tour guide and chef meant that we didn't miss a thing and we were very well fed as well. I'm particularly indebted to these two men as I fell ill on the tour and needed hospitalisation and their timely and efficient response was life saving for me." Deborah & Peter

ZIMBABWE BOTSWANA GAME TRACKER: I recently returned from the ZBa16 Game Tracker trip which departed 07 Oct. The tour was amazing! I enjoyed the itinerary, all the animals we encountered and the wonderful people we traveled with. The one person who made the trip most exceptional was our guide Alois Gumpo. He is an exceptional young man. He always kept us informed of what to expect next, gave info about the towns we went through, sharing history, economic and political information, and honestly answered all our questions, some of them a bit tough and perhaps controversial. He has an incredible wealth of knowledge about animals, birds, plants, people, the world. He always remained patient and caring regardless of what our group requested of him. His concern for our safety and wellbeing was evident in everything he did. The most endearing, and to me, one of the most valuable asset Alois demonstrated was his sense of humor. He was always smiling, always taking care of us with humor and kindness. He shared funny stories about his adventures and his childhood. He laughed at our jokes and joked with us in kind. He seemed to enjoy us, his duties and the trip, which allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves as well. I want to emphasize that some people who are jokesters do not take their duties seriously. That never occurred with Alois. His humor never impacted his sense of professionalism or our safety. I hope you are aware of what a valuable asset Alois is to Sunway! I have been on many tours. He is one of the best tour guides I’ve had. His expertise, knowledge, humor, and professionalism were tops! He was the frosting on top of an already amazing trip. If I take a third trip with Sunway, I hope I have the pleasure to have Alois as a guide once again.." Beth Valenza

BOTSWANA WILDSIDE: We have just returned home to Australia after our Botswana Wildside tour. We would like to pass on our praises for all our guides and helpers throughout the tour. William and Alios made such a wonderful pair of lead guides and complemented one another so well. We were very impressed with their knowledge of Africa's history, geography and wildlife. Not only were they well-informed, your staff also made sure that we were well-looked after throughout the whole tour. It is thanks to passionate staff like these which made our trip so memorable and we hope that they equally well-valued by your company." James Entwisle, Karla Nyhuis, Deon Ning, Australia
