Day 7, 8, 9 ST LUCIA

We cross back into South Africa and head into the Zululand heartland. We visit a traditional village to learn more about the proud Zulu culture, and get a chance to meet the local people. We base ourselves on the shores of Lake St Lucia – a Unesco world heritage site. The park's uniqueness lies in its remarkable combination of estuarine lakes, subtropical coastline, forests and wildlife. We will spend a day in the Hluhluwe game reserve where rhino conservation has been a priority. We then have another full day free to explore the St. Lucia estuary and the beaches, as we enjoy a boat cruise or kayak excursion (own expense). [cabins Bx3 Lx2 Dx1]

Day 10 BATTLEFIELDS

We leave the coastline and make our way through the scenic hills and valleys of Zululand to the small town of Dundee. Here the battles were fought between the Zulus, British and the Boer troops - war cries still resound in the hills. We spend time at Rourkes Drift and Islandwana battlefields with an informative visit to the Tulana museum.[lodge BL-]

The crisp mountain air is refreshing and invigorating and our lodge is a fantastic place to relax at the end of our tour. [tented lodge or chalets BLD]

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM:

Several times a year Sunway Safaris operates a trip for underprivileged children from SOS Children’s Village to visit Pilanesberg Game reserve, introducing the children to the wildlife, the importance and of conservation and helping broaden their horizons. Should you wish to help in this project, please contact our office.

Selected departure dates are available for Hearing Impaired Travellers (HIT). Please see the dates below in the drop down menu. These departures will be run by a Sunway tour leader and a signing translator and are available as specific deaf clients and friends departures.

Dear Sunway Safaris
I have recently returned from the Kruger and Zululand trip (July 2008) and would like to say a big thankyou to everyone for making my trip the best experience ever. The organisation, itinerary and communication before the trip were first rate and my big thankyou's have got to go to Charel and Sydney our guides for the trip. These guys worked so hard from morning until night to make sure that we were having a good time, their professionalism, experience, knowledge, organisation and enthusiasm every day never ceased to amaze me and i would like to say a huge thankyou to them for making my holiday so special and memorable, they really put everything in to the trip to make it sensational and although the group was only small, we had a great laugh and it has been my best holiday ever... believe me my family and friends are now sick of me harping on about it!!! I cannot forget to mention in my email about the food.... both guys were phenomenal cooks and would put many or our chefs back home to shame, if i could have taken them both home to cook for me, believe me i would and the even better bit about Charel and Sydney.. their grasp of British humour!!!!!!
I have to say the only downside to the trip was coming home but i feel that i have made some very close friends in a very short space of time. On the upside i was so impressed by my first trip with you that i couldn't wait very long to go again and have booked on your October Garden Route trip and am hopefully planning to book on your Cape Town to Vic Falls trip in 2009.... i feel very confident that i will have the same great experience and more on any trip I book with you.
A huge thank you again especially to Charel and Sydney, Clare Funnell, UK
